My friend Teri received an assignment in a Bible college course. She was asked to write a letter to herself from God, seal it, and not open it until the course ended seven weeks later. Re-reading her letter at the end of the course, Teri was deeply touched and could see how this exercise will benefit others. She willingly shares excerpts of her letter as an example to help you get started.

From God to You

My Dearest,

I love you. YOU are my heart’s desire. My word tells you many times just how much I love you with an everlasting love (Jer. 31:3). You are always on my mind and in the palm of my hand. I will never let you go.

I know you are struggling with _______________________________________, but I need you to depend on me. I need you to look at me. I am the one who will carry you through. I placed you at __________________________________ for a reason. I have given you gifts so you could use them to build my kingdom. I will guide you and direct you as you walk in my light (Ps. 27:1, Ps. 119:105).

_____(name)______, just be still (Ps. 46:10). I know how ___________________ (lonely, hurt, angry, desperate) you are, but I want you to trust me and to lean on me (Ps. 42:5). Have I not upheld you through these past years when you were afraid? I protected you and kept you safe (Isa. 41:10). I know you are fearful of your future and what will be the next step for you. I have written the next chapter in your story (Jer. 29:11) and I will be there with you. Stay by my side, ____(name)____ and walk with me. Yes, I hear when you cry (Ps. 5:1) and sigh (Ps. 38:9-10) because you don’t understand or are frustrated. Remember, I am with you and leading you through your difficulties (1 Thess. 5:24).

Finally, ____(name)______, I want you to always know that I am Jehovah Jireh. I will provide (Gen. 22:14). I encourage you to run to me with all your needs.

I love you ____(name)_____. I really do.

GOD

Now it is your turn. Consider writing your own letter and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.

One of my coaching clients tried it and emailed, “I love this exercise. I’ve sealed my letter from God in an envelope and put a note on my calendar to open it in three months. I’m considering sending it through the mail, so I have the date it was postmarked.”
