See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

Spring officially began a few days ago and Easter is fast approaching.  The mounds of snow have disappeared and the ice on my backyard pond has melted. This is the time of year I love to watch for signs of new life.  I savor the first buds on what for months had been a brown skeleton of a tree.  I search for the first bulbs to bloom, which in my garden are usually the snowdrops.  And then, of course, there is the delight of seeing the first robin in my yard.

It never ceases to amaze me how God, the Creator of life, brings such stunning beauty after the harshness of winter.

But, it isn’t only in the spring when God brings new life.  I once heard a pastor say that in his ministry it seems God is usually doing something new every 4 to 5 years.  He has learned to pay attention and discern when God might be doing something new.

In Isaiah 43:19, we read, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”

Spring is the time of year when I consider what seeds to sow or what annual or perennials to transplant.  However, invariably something begins to grow in my garden that I did not plant – in addition to the weeds!  I am never certain if this “donated” seed was carried by the wind or delivered by a bird, but something new springs up.  And if I fail to discern that the plant is something good, I will yank it out before it even has a chance to develop, because it was not in my plans.

So, I challenge you in this new season to discern, to be aware, and notice the fresh new growth of spring.  But, also pay attention to something new God might be doing in your life or in your garden, something good that just pops up.  Something that you did not plan for or expect.

And finally, we never want to lose sight of the new life we were given when Jesus conquered sin and death.

From all of my team, Happy Easter!

Warmly,

Georgia

“Forget the former things;

do not dwell on the past.

See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

and streams in the wasteland.”
