It’s easy to assume that God is like the people around you.  You feel like He tracks your shortcomings and loves you only when you do not sin.  Instead of remembering God’s unconditional love, you assume you must earn God’s favor and risk losing it with each mistake.

If your heart is heavy this holiday season from grief and loss, it’s easy to fall into the incorrect mindset that you’ve disappointed God.  You believe you hurt so much because of something you did or did not do.

Remember God’s Unconditional Love

Let’s remember that Christmas is the ultimate indication that God’s love is unconditional. Not one of us deserves it. We all fall short of perfection.  Yet, Jesus came knowing God the Father had destined Him for this very purpose. God gave His Son so that we might be reconciled to Him.

No matter how you feel or how others treat you this holiday season, just remember that in His eyes, you are accepted, beloved, cherished, and fully His for all eternity. As my pastor often said, “There’s nothing you can do to have God love you more or less.”  That is the true Christmas gift.

Have a Merry Christmas!
